This guide walks you through the process of upgrading from the legacy Outlook add-in to the new Xakia O365 Add-In, which uses modern Azure authentication and Microsoft Graph integration.
1.Add the Azure App for Microsoft Graph Authentication
Register the new Azure AD app for the add-in in your Azure tenant.
This will be called 'Xakia O365 Outlook Add-In'
Grant admin consent for all required permissions to ensure users can authenticate.
2. Install the New Add-In via the Outlook App Store
Open Outlook and navigate to the Add-Ins section.
Search for the 'Xakia for Outlook' in the App Store.
Make sure you don't install the legacy add-in
Add the add-in to your Outlook client.
3. Test the New Add-In
Select one or more pilot users to verify the new add-in.
Confirm authentication works and the add-in functionality works as expected.
Test key features (email filing, matter creation, etc.).
4. Migrate All Users
Communicate the migration plan to all users.
Instruct users to add the new add-in from the Outlook App Store.
Ensure all users can sign in and access the new functionality.
5. Remove the Old Add-In
Instruct users to remove the legacy add-in, 'Xakia for Outlook (Legacy)' from their Outlook clients.
Confirm that no users are actively using the old add-in.
6. Remove the Old Azure App
In Azure Portal, locate the old Azure AD app registration for the legacy add-in.
This will be called 'Xakia Outlook Add-In'
Delete the app registration to remove access and clean up your tenant.
Tips:
Always test with a small group before migrating everyone.
Ensure admin consent is granted for the new Azure app before rollout.
Communicate clearly with users about the migration steps and timing.
