Configuring an AI Review

Setting it up takes only a few seconds!

Every AI review in the Word Add-In starts on a configuration screen. Setting it up takes a few seconds, but the choices you make here shape what the AI looks for, how strict it is, and which Playbook (if any) it measures the document against. This article walks through each setting on the Review tab.

Note: AI Document Review and Redlining is available to AI Subscription users. Speak with your Customer Success Manager about adding it to your subscription.

Open the Review tab

Open the document in Microsoft Word, activate the Xakia Add-In, and click the Review tab at the top of the panel. The configuration screen appears with five settings to populate before you click Analyze.

Reviewer Role

Tell the AI who you're acting for. The role tunes the analysis to your side of the deal.

  • Customer — you're acting as the buyer or party receiving the service.

  • Service Provider — you're acting as the seller or party providing the service.

  • General Counsel — you want a balanced in-house review without favouring either party's position.

Review Style

Choose how strict the AI should be when comparing the document to your Playbook.

  • Pragmatic — broad intent, accepts minor variation. Surfaces only material legal risk.

  • Balanced — flags clear deviations from the Playbook. Minor wording differences are tolerated where intent is preserved.

  • Strict — flags any departure from preferred clause language, including minor phrasing variations. Use for high-risk engagements or compliance audits.

A description of the selected Style appears below the chips so you can confirm your choice before running the review.

Governing Law

Choose which jurisdiction the AI should apply when reviewing the document.

  • Playbook Jurisdiction — uses the Governing Law set on the selected Playbook.

  • AI Detected (during analysis) — the AI reads the document and applies the jurisdiction it identifies.

  • Custom — type the jurisdiction yourself (for example, NSW, Australia).

When you select a Playbook, the resolved jurisdiction appears as a confirmation line below the dropdown (for example, Using: NSW Australia).

Review Options

Pick one or more lenses for the review. You can run any combination, including a single lens by itself.

  • Playbook — compares clauses against the selected Playbook.

  • Jurisdiction — flags conflicts with the selected governing law.

  • Market Practice — flags deviations from standard commercial practice.

  • Drafting Quality — checks numbering, spelling, grammar, cross-references and definitions.

Select a Playbook

If Playbook is one of your selected Review Options, choose the Playbook that best matches the document type from the list at the bottom of the configuration screen. Each Playbook shows its Governing Law underneath the title to help you pick the right one.

Run the review

Click Analyze in the bottom-right corner. The AI processes the document clause by clause — you'll see a live progress indicator showing the current clause and a running count of suggestions found so far.

Tip: Review Options are independent. You can run a Drafting Quality check on its own (no Playbook needed) for a quick proofread, or combine all four lenses for a full-spectrum review.

Re-analyzing a document

Click Re-analyze on the results screen at any time to return to the configuration screen with your previous selections remembered. Adjust any setting and click Analyze to run again, or click Cancel to keep your existing results.

Note: Any redlines or comments already inserted into the Word document remain in place when you re-analyze. The AI's findings are reset and a fresh review is produced.
